In the past, all radio stations really had to have a production director, who would create commercials by assigning related duties to station DJs and feeding commercials into station software.
In recent years, technical advancements allow the traffic director to insert emailed commercials directly into the software. The presence of fewer on-site air personalities also makes it more difficult to create top-notch local commercials.
In some cases, the radio station will need to furnish a script that was prepared by a salesperson, read by talent, and then delivered to the radio station. At other times, salespeople may need to provide copy points to feed commercial-writing and production processes.
